Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

property damage

my nieghbor wants to take me to court if I don't give her 200.00 for a dent my child has made on her vehicle by 4/15/09. i have no problem giving it to her, but she doesn't want to show me an estimate saying it cost 200.00, and she wants the money order in her name. or she will take me to court and call her insurance company. Mind you i have eveything in recording of our conversations.but she also said i have 30 days to pay it. What should I do?

Re: property damage

Tell her that if she takes you to court she will have to provide evidence that the repairs would cost $200, so she will have to show you that evidence one way or the other.

Be *very* careful about the recordings you mentioned. If you secretly recorded your conversations and if those conversations took place under circumstances which reasonably led your neighbor to believe they were private, then you committed a crime each time you did so. The recordings will not be admissible as evidence against your neighbor, but they will be admissible against you if you are ever prosecuted for making them.
