Who is responsible for notifying victims families?

If someone is critically injured in a car accident, who is responsible for notifying the family?

Is there a policy or precedure for notification?

When there's a critical injury the police are normally called and they notify. Otherwise the hospital or fire department will notify. These departments and hospital have published policies.

Usually it is the police that contact the victims family, whether or not the injured party was first taken to a hospital.
