Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

Skate boarding equipment

My son wants to build some small skate

boarding ramps and boxes to ''grind''

on. We are not talking about the 15

foot high ramps and half pipes, but 3-4

foot high. My question is my liability if

one of his friends injures himself on the

equipment. Does a waiver signed by

the friends protect us? Do we need

extra insurance? Can we get sued, even

though we have signed waivers?

Re: Skate boarding equipment

You should get insurance. A waiver will not work here for two reasons. First, a minor cannot enter into this type of contract. Second, waivers rarely save anyone from a lawsuit, which brings me to your last inquiry. Yes, you can get sued. In fact, if someone injures him/herself while "grinding", you can hedge your bets that you will be receiving a letter of representation from an attorney.

Good luck.
