Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

The buyer of the duplex where I have live for 9 years does not want to give me a "notice to vacate" or the $14,450 relocation fee. My present landlord will give me the money if I commit to being out in 30 days. I am 83 years old. Escrow has not closed. Is this legal?

You need to consult with an attorney familiar with the "Ellis" act. I cannot tell from your zip code whether you are in Santa Monica and subject to their strict rent control ordinance, or in Los Angeles with a different rent control ordinance. There are specific rules governing withdrawal of rental units from the housing market in these types of cases.
