Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

City Abandoned land

My city of Sonora, CA abandoned a road that was part of a subdivision which borders my property. When I purchased my home I was told that according to law the half the road that runs along my property is mine and the other half the road was granted to those who own property on the other side of it. Recently I noticed new corner markers and apparently the neighbor who is friends with the city engineer, was able to get my half of the road, or what I was told was my half. I was wondering what laws dictate that when city land is abandoned half goes to each side and if there are any exceptions to this rule that are legal. Note I have not been able to get copies of the abandonment paper work from my city.

Have that line checked by a surveyor. Then go to a title company and get a copy of the deed to you and the dedication of the road way to the county. The county may refuse to accept the dedication or rescind the dedication, but it cannot give the property to another person. That is it may only be returned to the person dedicating the property to the county.
