Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

The city I live in is forcing me to pay for a real estate license even though I am not using it. I tried the business and found out that its not for me. I told them that I have another job but they are only looking for 2013 and forward. They said because I have a valid sales persons license with the Dept. of Real Estate i have to have a business license. I am thinking that the business license would be invalid since there is no valid business name, address or phone number. Can they force me to do this?

Tell them to go pound sand, You are dealing with someone who doesn't know what they are talking about. You can not practice and work in RE as a salesman without being employed by a broker. If you are not so employed, you are not working, thus do not need a business license. Besides which, even if employed by a broker and working, YOU do not need a business license, the broker does.
