cutting down two trees on adjoining property without absentee owners permission

the subject trees were blocking my view of the city on a hillside location and were also in violation of the fire regulations in a very high fire danger zone. how much could I be liable for.and how can protect my assets I am a poverty level senior 94 yrs old living on social security.have very little money in the bank.I am very disturbed by the owner anger and threats, I would greatly appreciate some helpful advice which would help my nervousness over my impulsive action descibed above thank you.--name removed--C.

First if you have a home owner's insurance policy report this to your insurance. Then avoid contact with the neighbor and wait. If the neighbor has further contact with you that is threatening call the police and report this as senior abuse. Otherwise there is not a lot that you can do.
