Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

I have a friend what was evicted from their apartment and I help them by letting them stay with me until they found a new place to stay. When it came time to move they lost their job, which cause them to stay longer, but I found them another job. Well six months came and went and now it been a little over 3 years and they still refuse to move. There is no rental agreement, they never paid any rent and I am the owner of my house which I live in and on numerous times have ask them to move. They are claiming that they have squartter right. Who can I get this person out of my house so I can go on with my life.

They don't have squatter's rights.......those come from exclusive possession which is without permission and payment of the property taxes is also required, plus it takes five years to acquire rights. They were guests, when you tell them to leave and they don't leave after a reasonable time, they are trespassers. Explain the situation to your local police or sheriff and ask for assistance in removing them; if that doesn't work you may have to see a local lawyer about an unlawful detainer or ejectment suit.
