Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

My home closed escrow over a month ago but my lender is now asking me to make physical modifications to the house and then have an appraiser inspect my home. I asked the lender why this needs to be done and was told that the modifications are necessary in order for them to sell my loan to another lender. Is it legal for my lender to ask me to make physical alterations to my home? One of the modifications requested is the removal of a gas line which could be costly or dangerous if attempted to remove it myself. What are my options/rights?

It would be an odd contract that allowed a lender to demand changes after close of escrow. Go consult with local real estate counsel to review the contract and facts before making any decisions.
