Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Keeing documents on file
We have ledger cards (rental income), executed residential leases, credit reports and other documents stored at our facility dating all the way back to the 1970's. We have been in business for several decades. Please advise us as to how long we must keep certain records on file (Our goal is to shred all documents that are ''outdated'') before we can do away with them. I generally suggest that documents be kept for 7 years unless these are current tenants and relate to capital assets.
