Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Lapd will not release my property

before my friend passed away she gave me some of her collectible

items because we were so close. These items included a vintage

organ, a bicycle, and a stamp collection. they were all stolen from

her house before i could claim them. through some small miracle i

came across a link on the internet to the LAPD site which had an

article about someone who was arrested with 2 mil dollars of

stolen collectibles. i met the guy they were talking about at my

friends house b4 she died. on the lapd site they had pics of

numerous items they recovered and i identified all of the items that

were stolen from her house that were supposed to be passed on to

me. after providing the lapd with evidence of this matter they

released the bicycle and the organ to me. they are refusing to

release the stamp collection. what can i do?

Re: Lapd will not release my property

If your friend had a next of kin and no will, you can have that person send a formal demand to LAPD under the Probate Code to collect property of the estate. Then the relative can turn it over to you. If there were no relatives, you can petition the court to become your friend's administrator and demand release of all of her property from various sources.

Re: Lapd will not release my property

It would be helpful to know why they released some of the property to you, but not all of it.
