Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Owning a house with someone but not married

What are my options if I owe a house with someone who I am not married to and has lost his job and can not pay for his 1/2 of the mortgage? If he defaults on the loan and take me down with him?

Either pick up his half of the mortgage, or contact the lender and ask if they could forebear for a few months until he gets back on his feet. They might require you to pay the interest and tack on the principal to the end of the loan. Good luck!
