Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

My question is, a lady I know was married to a man for five plus years. She moved in to his house, which he owned. He passes away and the title of the house was in his and his daughter's name only. He left no will, so my question is, how long can the wife stay in the home?

A correct answer would require knowing how title was held by father and daughter, and also perhaps whether any mortgage payments were made by the couple during their five year marriage.

Typically, the home would be his separate property because it was acquired before the marriage. However, she may be entitled to funds for mortgage payments, upkeep, etc. Also, how title to the house is held is pivotal in answering this questions.
