Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Recent breakins in Sherman Oaks

We live in Sherman Oaks, and yesterday 5 cars were vandalized including mine on Wed. Police came, said we need bright lights and cameras back there and today they are dusting for fingerprints. Apt manager didnt even tell us cars were broken into even though they knew. Wed night management sent out a letter saying they are not responsible for the safety and security of the tenants or the vehicles. We have an automoatic gate which everyone has code for.

In addition my sliding door is installed backwards since I first moved here, 4 years ago, all of them are and they have not fixed them. I am worried about our security since there is no way to secure the doors. Please advise what I should do to put them on notice since something needs to be done to ensure our safety after the car thefts. Our attorney recently passed away and we have noone to consult. My sliding door is my first concern..and the car port.Thank you.

Re: Recent breakins in Sherman Oaks

I am sorry your attorney passed away. I would write the management back saying they sure are responsible for your safety and security, and they would be wise to improve the lighting in the area before someone is seriously victimized and sues them.

You could also complain in writing to the L.A. City Housing Dept.
