Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

I want to know if i can sell my riperian rights.

In my deed, I have rights to use river water from the Kern River. Is it possible to lease or sell this right as you would real property?

Yes, it's quite possible, but an attorney needs to review your particular matter. We are located in the Central Valley and work with agricultural clients. If we are unable to provide a clear answer, we can refer you to a local attorney specializing specifically in water rights.

As a general rule you can, however, I would strongly suggest that you consult with a water rights attorney (yes, there are attorneys - particularly in the Central Valley - who specialize in water rights). Contact them because there are some very unique laws that govern water rights, and you may also be subject, in the Central Valley, to any number of restrictions upon your rights that may not be obvious from your deed.
