In the state of California, county of Los Angeles, can a landlord force me to take a new refrigerator that is of lower quality than my own?

Take a look at your rental agreement. If the landlord is required to provide a refrigerator, then the landlord should provide one if you don't have one of your own. I would tell the landlord to hold off on buying a new refrigerator because you have one that is perfect for you. If he won't do that, have him put it in storage somewhere.
