Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Tenants rights.

What is the maximum time frame a landlord has to file a suit against an ex-tenant.We moved out of this particular house one year ago this July 20th.Now the ex-landlord is going to try and sue us for certain things.The original estimate has gone up drastically from last years estimate.

Was it a written lease? If so, the statute of limitations is four years. See California Code of Civil Procedure section 337.2 at your county law library. Oral lease--two years.
