Legal Question in Real Estate Law in California

Title company

I had called a title company and asked for them to look at the deeds on my house. The title company said they would mail me the results but never did. Why do you think they did not send them? They said they would do it for no charge. Is there a web site I can go to and see the history of the house records? Because I own the house can I see the non public paper work?

Re: Title company

Maybe the title company learned from its title search that you are not the owner or an owner of the property, and hence decided not to provide the information.

The best place to look up title records is at the county recorder's office. If you go at a time when the clerks are not too busy, they may be willing to assist you in getting started. Records for the most recent ten or so years are likely to be computer searchable - but in most if not all counties this information is not on line; you have to do the search locally at the recorder's office on their public-access terminals.

If you send me the assessor parcel number, city and county directly (not through LawGuru), I will try to find some information through an attorney's search service (not available to the general public) at no charge. However, even this method of searching will not go back as far or provide as much depth of information as searching at the recorder's office.
