Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in California

I just found out someone I had sex with did not disclose they had hiv (undetectable if they took their meds as directed) and lied when I specifically asked them about having stds hiv and if he was undetectable. I am on post exsposure medication and didn’t have insurance so it was 1,600 for the pills. I’m in California is their action to take if someone didn’t disclose their hiv status in this situation? It has been 4 days

In 2018, California changed its criminal law to make such knowing exposure a misdemeanor instead of a felony. In other words, the person with HIV could be sentenced to up to 6 months in jail if convicted. Some causes of action that might be included in a civil lawsuit are battery, fraud, intentional infliction of emotional distress for which punitive damages might be sought. One might also allege negligence. You might want to speak with a lawyer locally to consider your options.
