Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in California

Possible sexual harrasment?

Hi, I am 16 and have been working at the movie theaters where I live. I have worked here for about 2 months, and recently I have been feeling uncomfortable at work because the person who hired me (Manager) has been calling me names such as ''Fudgepacker'' and ''Fruitcake.'' I used to take them as a joke between me and him, but now he is making me uncomfortable with my co-workers by calling my a fudgepacker or whatever infront of them. I know this is probably a minor thing, if anything at all, and I will definitly be quitting the job. Is there anything else I should/can do? Thank you

Re: Possible sexual harrasment?

You might look in your employee handbook (if any) and see whom to talk with about harassment. "Fruitcake" may be demeaning based upon sexual orientation, or it might just mean that one is perceived to be different than others. If you believe it has a sexual orientation connotation, you might complain in writing to corporate human resources, and keep a copy of any letter sent. You might also simply tell your manager that the comments make you uncomfortable, that they are creating a hostile work environment, and to please stop because they are not welcome. Good luck to you.
