Legal Question in Social Security Law in California

Hello

I have a question about my social security number. Can I refuse to give my social security to anyone including dental clinics ? I heard on the news a few months ago about dental clinics shutting down and sensitive information being improperly destroyed. I want to know what my rights are in this situation. Also, If I already gave a dental clinic my social security number can i ask them to cross it out.

Thanks

You can refuse but they may then refuse to give you treatment and it will not be worth while to you to do anything but go else where [you could demand to speak to the Office manager and find out why they need the number -- if they submit an insurance claim the insurance company will demand it, although they legally should not].

You can refuse to provide your social security number to anybody. However, in refusing to do so, you may be refused treatment as well. If you want to be sure, you can talk to the office manager or the person in charge of an office or facility requiring your social security number and have your questions answered so youll be comfortable enough to decide whether providing said info would be reasonable for you.

We understand your situation and we believe that your case should be given a more thorough evaluation in order to be sure that you get the maximum relief, granted your situation.
