Legal Question in Social Security Law in California

How long does it take to make a Decision?

I filed for Social Security in December of 1998, my court date was June 9, 2001,and here it is January 25, 2002 and no decision has been made whatsoever. I have become dependent on family and friends, and am unable to work. I am also diabetic. I can no longer depend on my family and friends to provide for me. I have sent letters to the Judge requesting a decision, but to no avail. How long does a judge have to make a decision after the hearing? Since my court date it has been 240 days. Can you tell me? Thanx...

Howdy:

It depends on where you are in the process. From the time reconsideration is requested until the time you get before the administrative judge, up to 2 years can pass.

It's not a quick process.
