Legal Question in Social Security Law in California

moving from my home

I am receiving ssdi and own my own home. I believe I need to move from this home since the neighborhood is changing so much and that the neighbors to one side of me has multiple families, and all of the problems that creates, parking, noise, dirty, blah blah blah. Can I move to another state or location without being penalized and how do I do that?

Re: moving from my home

Hello:

You stated that you are receiving SSDI (disability payments) and NOT SSI (Supplemental Social Security).

Ownership of any property, including a house is NOT an issue with disability benefits with the exception that assets that generate income (interest, rental) are "income" that potentially affects your disability benefit amount.

If you are receiving SSI and you do not reacquire a home, the money put into the bank above an agregate of $2,000 in total assets will diminish or defeat your SSI.

With just SSDI (disability) you should have no worries.

You can to go SSA.GOV and read there to be well informed.

Respectfully,
