Re: Wrongful death lawsuit

Be sure your lawyer is aware of your benefits so that your lawyer can do what is best for you. If your lawyer is not familiar with SSI regulations your lawyer can consult with someone that is.

The lawsuit, until it is settled or results in a collected judgment should have no effect on your benefits.

Your parents are more likely to be the heirs. If they recover money for themselves, that should not affect your rights unless you are not an adult.

If your sister was your caregiver, you will have suffered a more significant loss. I am sorry to learn of your loss.

If you do not set this up correctly AND well in advance, you will lose you SSI benefits due to excess income/resources.
