Donations and Tax Write Offs

How can business's donate to my student club and use that as a tax write off? Do we need to be a non-profit organization?

Usually not, however there are some work arounds. Talk to what ever department at your school handles donations (usually a planned giving department). See if they can accept checks on your behalf that they, legitimately through the school, can gift back to you. I have seen it done before at private Universities.
