non resident stae income tax

worked in ca, 1987, bankruptcy same year chapter 13.

current resident of new hampshire, worked in ca , in 04, now recieved an amnesty notice from the state of ca , attemptining to collect tax for 1987. no records for that tax year is in my possesion, am i legally bound to file with the state of ca for 1987 now ?

yes, you are liable for any California income tax due for that year. if you have no records, it will be difficult to establish that the tax due is different from the amount shown in the amnesty notice.

it is not certain that California will take collection action against you, but if you are in California or have any bank accounts that can be located, it it possible. in addition a state tax lien has been or will be filed, which could affect your credit rating.
