Legal Question in Tax Law in California

I think this is the most stupid question, but I need to know if there are any penalties for someone to overstate his or her individual income and pay the government more taxes than necessary?

I recommend you complete your tax returns truthfully, since you are signing them under penalty of perjury. If you wish to make a voluntary contribution to Uncle Sam to reduce the national debt, I'm sure you can find the info at irs.gov .
