Legal Question in Traffic Law in California

False police report

My daughter's friend (unliscensed driver) was giving my daughter a ride to ER.. Friend was driving her father's truck (father was out of town). A lady ran stop sign and hit them causing damage to the truck The friend asked my daughter to say SHE was driving since friend does not have a liscense due to legal problems. Friend promised to clear things with her father but now refusing to tell father the truth. My daughter is very afraid because she filed false police report. She wants to tell the dad the truth but other girl said she would deny it. What are the consequences for filing false report? By the way, police officer at the scene said accident was definitely the other driver's fault.

Giving false information to a police officer is a misdemeanor. Your daughter should consult with an attorney.
