Legal Question in Traffic Law in California

Uninsured motorist involved in a collision.

I purchased a vehicle on 5/28/01 w/trade-in. The trade-in was fully covered on an insurance policy. On 6/15/01 I called the insurance company to have the new vehicle placed on the policy. I didn't have VIN # at the time of the call, so, I placed a 2nd call hat day with the VIN #. The VIN# was not updated by the insurance company. I've had an accident and the ins co says I am not covered. What can I do?

Re: Uninsured motorist involved in a collision.

I know its too late now, but always walk the vehicle info into your insurance office, that way you get your insurance card for that vehicle!! Now in your case, did the insurance company tell you that you were insured? Did you get the name of the person you talked to? Did you get any bills between the date of calling and the accident? Under the doctrine of Promissory Estoppel you could sue the insurance company for coverage, however these are issues that could come up. What is the amount of damage?

You did not provide enough facts to give a proper answer.
