What happens in California if you do not lodge a will within 30 days?

There is no penalty per se, but try to lodge it as soon as possible. If the estate is over $100,000, and you are going to file a petition for probate, it would actually be better to file the will with the petition even if you are a little late in lodging the will, as filing both simultaneously facilitates the probate proceeding.
