Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

Collections

I am in collections (new to this trade). I have been trying to collect money from a client and I have had no luck. I just recently called his office and he has passed away. The secetary said that someone would be intouch with me and I have not heard from anyone. There telephone has been disconnected. So what do I do from here.

Re: Collections

Don't wait for someone to get in touch with you! Find out if there will be a probate of his estate--once probate is opened, and an administrator/executor appointed, you have four months to get your claim, in proper form, in the estate. Otherwise, you'll lose your chance. You also lose, regardless of probate, if you wait longer than a year after the date of death, so take some action now.

Re: Collections

Where did he die? Do you have a writ? Maybe time to hire an attorney to collect on contingency.
