Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

Deceased Wife

My wife passed away 02-17-07. We had separate bank accounts and separate credit card accounts. I sent the Death certificate's to all her credit card accounts. She did not have an estate, we were not wealthy, I closed out her meager bank account. Now some of the credit card companies are asking for me to pay her balances, what are my legal options in this case? I used up all my savings to bury my beloved wife.

Re: Deceased Wife

You are not legally liable for your deceased wife's separate property debts, but could have some responsibility for any community property debts herein. Your best route here would be to retain legal assistance in reviewing your credit card debt situation and implementing the proper strategy thereafter to resolve everything with the creditors at issue directly on your behalf.
