That is a difficult question. Is the loved one deceased? Did the loved one own any real property, like their house?

If you cannot find a copy of a will or trust in the residence or among their personal papers and boxes, you can check with the County Recorder to see if there is a record of the trust being recorded or perhaps the house was held in trust.

Did the loved one have a safety deposit box? Maybe there are documents in there. But, you will probably have to file probate first before being allowed access to the box.
