lodging a trust/will

In California do you have to lodge a trust/will and if so how do you do that?

After the person who created the Will dies, California law provides that you are to "lodge" the will in the Probate Court in the county where that person resided. I suggest taking the original and a copy to the clerk of the probate court. Ask them to lodge the original and "stamp" the copy (so you have a record of when & where it was lodged plus the tracking number assigned to it if you ever need to retrieve it).

There's no similar requirement for trusts, but there are other requirements - for example, you need to send each of the trust beneficiaries a Notice and a copy of the trust if they request it. There are other requirements as well.
