our mom died the 24th of dec 09 in california. step dad is not even talking to us. he did not even put us in the obituary. he said she went into the marriage with nothing she has nothing. he was the ceo of a corporation. he blocked our relationship with our mom. he would not let her give us any financial help ever. are we intitiled to anything?

Quite possibly. The issue hinges on how much was earned during the time they were married. If she came into the marriage with nothing, but $100,000 a year was earned by him through 5 years of marriage, then she may be able to leave to you up to $250k, depending on the facts. You have to see what her Will, if any, says. Or if she had set up a Trust. Do not get your hopes up too high as he may have set it up that you get nothing, but it is worth the effort to find out.
