Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

I have a probate case right now and have a question concerning the statutory fee. Can the lawyer charge additional fees on top of the statutory fee. I understand there are filing fees and bonds, but I am talking about charging for emails, telephone calls, court appearances? Thanks, Chad.

Usually not, unless they're approved as extraordinary fees, which are usually associated with selling assets or filing or defending litigation. There's a detailed list of what attorneys can charge extra for at the Los Angeles County Superior Court's website under "court rules", chapter 10.
