Question about a family Will

If I get left a home which is of little value but my family member owes a lot of money on it, and I don't want to live in it or pay for it, do I have to be responsible for it, or can i refuse to accept it even though it's in the will?

Re: Question about a family Will

You do not have to legally accept any gift that is given to you by virtue of will or inter vivos transfer.

Re: Question about a family Will

There is no requirement that...just because someone left you something you HAVE to take it. Imagine the torture people could cause to other people, not to mention businesses, cities or counties.

Just don't be too quick to disclaim. Make sure you know value and expenses. There are people who will still purchase these over-under properties, so take the time to find out all your options before disclaiming anything. (We know a few of these, so feel free to email or call us directly.)

I hope this helped!

Scott
