Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

What rights do I have being a stepchild

My stepfather recently passed away, preceded in death of my mother. My stepfather said that he would have a will made up but I was not able to find one so I assume that there is none. Just prior to his death a distant relative made contact with him that he had not seen in over 20 years. Now, his family is saying that they want to bury him at home next to their parents and I have no say in their decision. I do not disagree and think that he will like that. My question is; now that his family is aware of his properties they are seeking to cash in on whatever they can get. Do I have any rights to said properties. being that I was raised by him; and what must I do?

I'm handling a probate similar to that right now. How "close" are the relatives (that is, are they cousins, 2nd cousins, 3rd cousins, etc.?). Depending on their relationship, they may be entitled to inherit his entire estate.
