tragic accident wife died, husband on life support

son of wife is in town and wants to make arrangements for his mother's cremation etc. but there is no power of attorney and wife's husband is on life support.... cannot get into their apartment, etc. what do we do???

If the problem is for mother's cremation, then the mortuary should look to next of kin. Providing the son can show the current husband is incapacitated, the mortuary should accept this to make arrangements. Anything other than that would require a Conservatorship.

We can do some research, but that is an off-the-cuff immediate response.
