Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

possible trust

I recently did an unclaimed property search and found that my father had over $60K in unclaimed property; most of this was dividend payments. He passed away 15 years ago and I believe his parents left him several trusts in his name. How would I go about locating the trust itself?

Re: possible trust

Really, unless you have some personal knowledge, the best way to find out about a person's assets after they pass away is to watch their mail. There are investigative services you can hire, but the USPS is the tried and true way.

In regards to the unclaimed property. Get a copy of your father's death certificate, available from the county recorder, (Los Angeles is at http://www.lavote.net/) and provide that with the claim.

Re: possible trust

Well it may have been recorded against any propert in the trust, so you can checkt he county records. Also, you could contact their attorney who created the trust or anyone who would have been a likely trustee or beneficiary.
