Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

The wife of a married friend has willed her half of their home to both children. If she passes away and the kids decide to sell/ live in the home , will her widow still have a place to live ?

Tenants in common all have an equal right of occupancy, and all must sign a deed to sell the property. The co-owners wishing to sell may bring a partition action in court if the widow is unable to buy them out.
