Legal Question in Workers Comp in California

Injured at work, insurance comp.wont pay for surgery, then I was FIRED!

A year ago I sliped at work and landed on my back.I was placed on temp dis.I decided to get a lawyer. After having an MRI and a nerve test done the results came back saying that I had two bulging dics in my lower back as well as severe nerve damage.I Tried to return to work but could not perform my duties I was then taking back out of work and was told by the Ins comp that I had to see their Doc who did a very basic physical he did not look at my MRI or my nerve results. He concluded in his report that I was 100% able to go back to work and therefore I was taking off of disability and was no longer being paid by the Ins. comp. However my Doc. said that I needed surgery to repair the nerves and disc and I had to go on state disability.I had to then see a doctor through the state who also concluded that I needed surgery. The Ins stoped my payments,I was fired for not returning to work although my lawyer sent letters stating that I had not been released by my Doc. We are now going to court.Im now having 2nd thoughts about my lawyer, he doesnt call me or inform me about whats going on he doesnt return my calls or seem eager about the case. Is it to late get a new lawyer or at least a diff lawyer to handle my wrongful term. case?
