You have a serious enough injury that it is probably worth while to retain a WC attorney even though you will pay 10-11% of the permanent disability as a fee to him/her. Go to an attorney who specializes in WC, but avoid the union attorney if you can as they normally run a mill handling so many cases the attorney does not have the time to speak to his own clients.

I would also suggest that you go to the California Applicants' Attorneys Association website, www.caaa.org. You can look up attorneys that are located in your area. I wouldn't bypass any attorneys your union refers you to. Since consultations are free, I'd encourage you to speak to more than one attorney to find one that you feel comfortable with.

You are clearly entitled to 1. Temporary disability benefits while treating, 2. a settlement for permanent disability, 2. paid present and future medical treatment and 3. Vocational training. It appears that you have treating with an insurance company doctor. If you think the doctor is releasing you too soon, you need to change the doctor immediately.
