Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Canada

garnisheeing wages

If a judgement is lost by me concerning a debt that i do not deny,i understand that they can garnishee my wages. I am a single parent on income assistance and am about to start a new part time job with the ministry topping up the total. I am worried about how much they can take from my wages. Can they put my children in jeopardy? or is there a limit to how much they can take?. I have already offered a given amount to try to pay this off. and the have accepted it to this point.

Re: garnisheeing wages.

This reply applies only in British Columbia, and assumes that you work in B.C. The maximum that can be garnisheed is 30% of net; you can apply to a Registrar of the Court that issued garnishee proceedings to pay a lesser amount. You will have to prove our financial circumstances. You may wish to consider declaring bankruptcy.
