breach of a peace bond
There was a peace bond issued against me,and the person who i was supposed to stay away from said that i was in contact with him. I have to appear in court for breach of a peace bond. If found guilty, what is the punishment?

The Criminal Code provides that:
811. A person bound by a recognizance [peace bond] under section 810, 810.01, 810.1 or 810.2 who commits a breach of the recognizance is guilty of
(a) an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years; or
(b) an offence punishable on summary conviction.
Although jail is a possible outcome, so is a term of probation or a fine. If you haven't got a record and breach isn't significant, probation on the same terms is likely. However, you are entitled to a trial, if you don't agree you were in contact with that individual. Your best bet is to get a lawyer to defend you. Having to enter into the peace bond didn't create a criminal record, but a guilty finding for breaching it will.
