Legal Question in Criminal Law in Canada

Hello,

I have a question about Peace Bonds in Canada. In 1995, I was arrested in Ontario and charged with an assault against my wife (now ex). In a bail review appearance, the Crown offered a Peace Bond in exchange for a withdrawal. I accepted, signed and kept the peace. So there was no conviction.

I am going through immigration procedures in the US now, and my lawyer wants a copy of an order showing that the charges with withdrawn. All I have is a copy of the Peace Bond that I signed.

Is there another document that shows that the charges were withdrawn or dismissed? If the Peace Bond order is *the* document that indicates the charges were dismissed, how do I convince my immigration lawyer that this is the case?

Thanks - Punda

The original charging "information" is the document upon which the court acted. If the charge was withdrawn, this will be reflected in that document. You should make inquiries about getting a copy from the court in which you were prosecuted.
