Legal Question in Business Law in Colorado

I am an optometrist and registered a new business as a Colorado corporation, the name of which ends in "Inc." I know that I could have decided that the business be a professional corporation or "p.c." . Now I am not sure if the business is REQUIRED to be p.c. or if that is just optional and the title "Inc." is OK to use in Colorado for an optometry corporation. Thank you.

As a Franchise Attorney I can say the following. Usually, in order for a corporation to practice a licensed profession, like optometry, it must be established as a professional corporation. This entails using the words professional corporation or abbreviation P.C. or APC. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.

A professional corporation is not the same thing as a regular corporation and prohibits non-professionals from holding shares in the professional corporation. I recommend a review of your corporate documents and probably changing the name. Not operating as a professional corporation may put your business and you personally at risk.
