Legal Question in Construction Law in Colorado
Home onwer not paying
I have--name removed--homeowner who will not pay the full contract amount. The owner has--name removed--building on his property that he needed electrical work done. The owner feels the job was not done in--name removed--timely manner (no schedule was in our contract. We talked about it once the job started) in addition, I didn't use the materials he thought I should have initially used. He says that I will settle for less or he will sue me for loss of revenue, he says he had to pay rent on--name removed--building he sold and I was holding him up. The work is now done. But, I haven't been paid.
No specifications where provided for the job. So I did the work according to the industry standard. I have since changed the materials to his liking. But, all that takes time and he wants me to walk away with less money because I cost him money.
what shold I do?

Sorry to hear about the problems. Quite frankly, this is not an easy case and would require much more information on the specific work provided, what was represented and what is common within the industry regarding this specific project. In short, there is no way any lawyer can give you a remotely accurate idea of the issues and strategies without more information.
You should contact a construction lawyer to see about the case and consider filing a mechanic's lien in a timely fashion. Good luck.
