can my employer rightly reduce my salary due to a demotion?

Yes. However, this depends on the reason for your demotion. Did your employer tell you why you were demoted? Do you think the demotion and the pay decrease were the result of discrimination on the basis of your race, age, sex or sexual orientation? I need to know more facts about why you were demoted, and whether you think the demotion was discriminatory.
