Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Colorado

I live in an area "governed" by a voluntary HOA. Am I legally bound to comply with their rules and regulations? When we purchased our home we were not aware of a HOA. Several years into our living here, we did paid some dues to the hoa in sporadic years when I have attended HOA meetings. My basic question is the HOA covenants says there shall be no barnyard animals except horses and I would like to keep chickens. I did ask the HOA, but the board has said no. Must I comply?

Thank you,

Generally you must comply. I have no idea why you did not know about the HOA as that must be disclosed in the sales contract.

As always, if you want legal advice you will need an attorney to review all the documents and facts and determine your rights and options.
